If you have never been to the International CES event that takes place every January in Las Vegas, you can’t even imagine what it is like. Whenever I attend CES, I meet new people, learn so much about new gadgets and upcoming tech trends and put more steps on my current activity tracker than I usually do in a month. I can’t wait for 2014 International CES to begin.
The International CES is not open to the public. It is put on by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and only those that work in the industry or write about consumer electronics are allowed to attend. And even with these restrictions, the giant Las Vegas Conference Center, the biggest I’ve seen, is completely packed during this event.
CES is more than just exhibits, although they do take up most of the space. In addition there are conferences with panels on a variety of subjects. And there are tech zones that feature emerging trends in particular areas.
Some Innovative Technologies to be Featured at the 2014 International CES
A brand new Tech Zone has been created for 3D printing this year. It will showcase 3D equipment for consumers. In addition to the many companies exhibiting at the 3D Tech Zone, 3D printing will also be the subject of two Conference Tracks. It will have it’s own Conference Track, Don’t Believe the Hype? 3D Printing Uncovered. And during the Technology Trends Conference, there will be a panel on Impact of the 3D Printing Revolution.
Connecting to the Cloud
The cloud is changing and revolutionizing the consumer electronics industry. There is a full conference track on Connecting to the Cloud and a panel in the StoryTech Impact! Conference titled How to Get to Heaven: The Future of Cloud Based Entertainment.
A new Tech Zone was also created for Driverless Cars. (no wonder they had to move some older tech zones to the Venetian). This Tech Zone is sponsored by Bosch, and if you want to try out one of these cars, Bosch, Ford and Induct will give you the opportunity to ride in one. And during the Automotive Electronics conference track, there is a panel on the Road to Driverless Mobility.
Did you know that innovations in digital health eclipse all other categories of tech innovation? And because of that it is well represented at the 2014 International CES. There are two Tech Zones filled with exhibitors – the Digitial Health Summit and Fitness Tech Summit Tech Zones. And there are conference tracks of the same name with the Fitness Tech Summit being a full day and the Digital Health Summit running two full days.
Internet of Things
We are connecting, more and more, through smart devices and are always on. We are moving towards an Internet of Things. Cisco is hosting a conference track on the Internet of Everything and has also created a Tech Zone for it.
This is an area that gets everyone excited. There is something about making things happen with your eyes or hand gestures that still seems somewhat futuristic. The new MotionTech TechZone will include exhibitors showcasing innovations in sensor technology. There is also a conference track on MEMS Sensor Fusion: Revolutionizing the Internet of Things.
Ultra HD TVs
HD TVs have been one of the highlights of CES in recent years. Ultra HD TV is next generation, HD display technology and is the closest thing to bringing the digital cinema experience to your home. There is one conference track on Ultra HD TV, Seeing is Believing: 3D, 4K and UHD and three stand-alone panels – Ultra HD Content: What Will We Watch in 2014 and Beyond?, Fool Me Once; Fool Me Twice. Lessons Learned on 4K, and Cutting-Edge TV: What Technologies Will Shape the Future?.
Wearing technology is fashionable and we want our technology to be fashionable. Two new Tech Zones have sprung up this year to showcase this trend, FashionWare, showcasing wearable tech, and the Wrist Revolution Tech Zone, showcasing pocket size technology. There are three panels for tech fashionistas to attend, Wearable Tech: Function Meets Fashion, Wearable Tech and The Era of Wearable Tech Arrives.
There is so much more that will be going on at the 2014 International CES. There are just highlights of newer innovations. I will be part of the MommyTech Tech Zone and I’m looking forward to attending some of the panels during the Silvers Summit. Here is the list with links to all Tech Zones. However most of my time will be walking the show floor looking at the thousand of products and trying to find the most interesting gadgets to write about when I return.
