In some ways, technology has taken the romance out of gifts. One of the most romantic gifts to give a loved one on Valentine’s Day used to be a mixed tape. Choosing the perfect song selection was what made the gift so romantic. But putting it together was hard work. With Milktape, you still need to create the perfect song selection, but the hard work is gone.
For those of you that never had to deal with making a mixed tape, I’m sure you have heard of them. They are a part of pop culture and have been mentioned in numerous movies and TV shows. One of my favorites is Jon Cusack’s riff on making the perfect mixed tape in High Fidelity.
After you chose your songs, for each one you would have to put the album on the turntable and push the cassette recorder to record at the exact time that the needle hit the record and then the reverse at the end of the song. This is harder than it sounds. There were invariably screeches or a few seconds missed or something so that the tapes rarely came out perfect.
Now we make playlists with our favorite music. It takes a few seconds and they come out perfectly. However, until now, sending a streaming playlist or handing over a USB stick never seemed like the best Valentine’s day gift. Until Milktape came along.
With the Milktape playlist on USB Cassette Tape, you just purchase the Milktape USB that is attached to a Cassette tape (and folds inside it) and then upload your playlist to it. It works on a PC or Mac. Milktape even includes one of those paper covers inside so that you can write the list of songs included. The gift will look exactly like an old-fashioned mixed tape.
It is so easy but the Milktape Mixtape will look like such a romantic Valentine’s Day gesture. And the USB cassette tape is only $15. Technology can bring romance after all.
