Quirky is a company that helps inventions become a reality. Anyone can submit and pitch an idea. The Quirky community helps to decide which people and products to work with. Those chosen are lucky enough to be part of the new open platform created by the partnership of Quirky and GE “for the community to invent and bring to market new consumer products for the home, using advanced manufacturing tools and technologies”. The first four products created through this platform are on sale and ready for holiday shopping. They are all connected home devices and can be controlled with the Wink: Instantly Connected app by Quirky for iOS and Android. Here is the Quirky Holiday Collection of Products: 1. Spotter – A smart home sensor. This sensor monitors motions, sound, light, humidity and temperature from your mobile device. You can also use the Spotter for baby monitoring and intruder alerts. You can have Spotter do almost anything you can think of. Maybe have it alert you when the wash is done! All this for only $50. 2. Nimbus – Your personal dashboard. Choose four areas of your life that you want to be able to monitor quickly and easily such as weather, email, traffic, twitter, stock market, etc. The Nimbus will keep a virtual eye on each of these for you and it syncs in real time. $130. 3. Pivot Power Genius – A smart power strip that allows you to turn anything plugged in to the two smart outlets on or off remotely from the Wink app. This power strip is perfect for either electronics that you want to be able to turn on or off when you are out or electronics that you worry you forgot to turn off, such as an iron. Another benefit of the Pivot Power Genius is that it is shaped in a way that plugs, no matter what size or shape, do not get in each others way. $80. 4. Egg Minder – Do you ever forget how many eggs you have left when you are at the store. Also, do you ever wonder about the freshness of your eggs. I don’t hold to the exact due date. The Egg Minder is a smart tray that can do both. There are lights in the tray that will tell you if an egg is going bad. And you can find out remotely how many eggs you have left. So cool. $70. Right now your best bet on finding all of these products, and others, would be on the Quirky online shop. However they should also be available at Best Buy and Home Depot with more retailers to add on soon. Which of these products do you think is the coolest invention? Which would you be most likely to buy?
